Rooted in the Garden Route

We started with a bakkie, a spade and a conviction: gardens here should work with the wind, the sand and the rain - not against them.

Our story

Eden Edge was founded in 2013 by horticulturist Thandi Mokoena after a decade restoring gardens along the coast. She noticed the same pattern everywhere: beautiful plants dying in the wrong places, water gushing onto lawns at noon, and pruning done for tidiness rather than plant health.

Her approach - assess first, design second, plant last - built a reputation one thriving garden at a time. Today our teams maintain estate grounds, hotel entrances, holiday homes and family gardens from Mossel Bay to Knysna.

We employ locally, buy from Garden Route nurseries, and give every new gardener structured training in indigenous plant care. The Garden Route gave us our name; we try to repay it in healthy soil.

What we believe

  • Right plant, right place

No fighting nature. We match species to soil, light and salt-wind so gardens flourish without constant rescue.

  • Soil before surface

Healthy gardens grow from living soil. Compost, mulch and microbes come before any pretty purchases.

  • Gardens for life

Birds, bees, children and morning coffee all count as users. We design for them as much as for looks.

Why clients choose us

  • Horticulturist-led – trained botanists on every design
  • Indigenous expertise in fynbos, aloes and coastal species
  • Same-team maintenance – you know whose boots are in your beds
  • Water-wise by default, with smart irrigation where it counts
  • Honest assessments – sometimes your garden needs less, not more
