What we do

Garden services for every corner of your property

Whether you need a team in every week or a one-off rescue mission for an overgrown garden, we arrive with our own equipment, do the work properly, and take the green waste with us.

  1. Weekly & Fortnightly Maintenance

Mowing, edging, bed weeding, hedge touching-up and general tidying on a fixed schedule, so your garden never gets away from you. Same team every visit, so they learn your garden.

Most popular with family homes and rental properties

  2. Garden Clean-ups & Overhauls

A full reset for neglected or overgrown gardens — before a sale, after building work, or when you've simply inherited a jungle. We cut back, clear, rake out and cart away everything.

Quoted upfront based on a site visit or photos

  3. Lawn Care & Instant Lawn

Regular mowing and edging, plus scarifying, top dressing and feeding in season. For tired lawns we lift, level and lay quality kikuyu or Buffalo instant lawn that roots quickly.

    Seasonal feeding programme available

  4. Pruning, Hedging & Tree Care

Roses, fruit trees, shrubs and hedges pruned at the right time of year, not just when it suits. Formal hedges kept sharp, and larger tree work handled with our trusted arborist partners.

Winter pruning bookings open May to August

  5. Irrigation & Water-wise Systems

New drip and sprinkler systems, repairs to existing ones, and simple timers that keep you within Cape Town's water restrictions. We design around your soil and planting, not the other way round.

Compliant with current City water by-laws

  6. Indigenous & Water-wise Landscaping

Garden beds redesigned with fynbos, aloes, restios and other plants that thrive on the Cape's winter rain and dry summers. Beautiful, lower maintenance and kinder on your water bill.

Planting plans drawn up for your specific plot

  7. Commercial & Estate Grounds

Ongoing grounds maintenance for complexes, office parks, guest houses and estate management companies — with signed service-level agreements, scheduled visits and a single point of contact who answers the phone.

Gardener from the Cape Garden Services team checking young seedlings before planting Freshly mowed lawn with clean stripes after a scheduled maintenance visit

About us

A local crew that treats your garden like their own

Cape Garden Services started in 2009 with one bakkie, two lawnmowers and a simple promise: arrive when we say we will, do the work we quoted, and leave the place tidier than we found it. Fifteen years later we look after more than 400 gardens across the city, but that promise hasn't changed.

Our teams are permanent staff — not casual labour picked up on the morning — and they're trained in-house on everything from correct rose pruning to safe chemical handling around children and pets. Because we work in Cape Town's own conditions, we know what south-facing Constantia shade does to a lawn, how northerly summer winds dry out Milnerton borders, and which plants actually survive a Bellville frost.

You'll deal directly with the owners, Andries and Lerato, from your first quote onwards. No call centres, no chasing.

Why choose us

The difference shows up in month three

Any team can make a garden look good on day one. Here's what keeps our clients with us for years:

The same team, every visit

Your garden is looked after by a consistent crew who know its quirks — which corner stays damp, where the irritable neighbour's boundary lies, and exactly how you like your hedge line.

Written quotes, honest pricing

You get a clear written quotation before any work starts, and our monthly maintenance rates are fixed for 12 months. If something extra is needed, we ask first. No surprise invoices.

Own equipment and bakkies

We bring professional mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers and trailers, and we service them ourselves. When load shedding hits, we still have charged battery tools to finish the job.

Green waste goes with us

Every visit includes removal of clippings and debris. You're never left with a compost heap blocking your driveway unless you specifically asked for one.

Water-wise by default

We plan mowing heights, mulching, feeding and irrigation around Cape Town's water restrictions and summer heat, so gardens stay presentable even in a tight water year.

Insured and accountable

Public liability cover for work on your property, uniformed teams, and a supervisor you can phone directly if anything isn't right. Our workmanship guarantee means we come back until you're happy.

Landscaped estate home with layered garden beds and manicured lawn completed in Constantia

Constantia · Estate grounds

Full grounds overhaul for a wine-route estate

Three weeks to clear years of overgrowth, replant the entrance beds with water-wise species and set up an ongoing weekly maintenance schedule for the main house and cottage.

New kikuyu instant lawn laid and striped after a backyard lawn revival in Durbanville

Durbanville · Lawn revival

Kikuyu instant lawn for a family backyard

Removed a patchy, frost-damaged lawn, levelled and composted the soil, and laid fresh kikuyu in a day. Two weeks later the kids were playing on it — and it survived its first winter.

Potted indigenous plants arranged for a small courtyard container garden in Sea Point

Sea Point · Courtyard transformation

A tiny courtyard turned into a green room

Apartment courtyard with no soil? No problem. Layered containers, a slim trellis and low-water planting now give the owners privacy and colour, maintained on a fortnightly visit.

Rows of vegetables growing in a school food garden planted and maintained in Newlands

Newlands · School food garden

Vegetable beds for a primary school

Built raised beds, installed a drip system on a timer, and planted seasonal veg with the learners. We now maintain the garden monthly and help the teachers run their eco club sessions.

Large mature tree professionally pruned and shaped against a clear sky in Tokai

Tokai · Tree & hedge care

Storm-damaged oak made safe again

After a winter storm split a major limb, our arborist partner reduced the canopy safely while we restored the underplanting beneath. Annual structural pruning keeps it healthy.

Young indigenous seedling planted in a water-wise garden border in Milnerton

Milnerton · Water-wise border

Indigenous border that thrives on neglect

Replaced a thirsty exotic border with aloes, proteas and restios mulched thickly against the wind. Irrigation dropped by half and the garden looks better in February than it ever did.

From our clients

What garden owners say about working with us

“We've used Cape Garden Services for four years now. The same team arrives every Tuesday, they remember exactly how I like the roses done, and if I ever have a special request Andries sorts it out on the spot.”

Margaret, Rondebosch — weekly maintenance client

“Our rental had been let go badly between tenants. They quoted a fixed price for the clean-up, arrived with a full crew, and two days later the garden looked like a show house. The new tenants signed partly because of the garden, I'm sure.”

Dev, Durbanville — one-off clean-up

“Honest people. They told us our lawn problem was the irrigation, not the grass, fixed the solenoid for a small fee instead of selling us a whole new system. That kind of advice earns loyalty.”

Sarah & Tom, Sea Point — irrigation & courtyard

“They maintain the common grounds of our complex and it's the smoothest contractor relationship we have on the board. Scheduled visits happen, invoices match quotes, and residents actually compliment the gardens.”

Johan, Bellville — body corporate grounds

Common questions

Before you book

How much does regular garden maintenance cost?

It depends on the size of the garden and how much there is to do, so we quote per property after a quick site visit or a set of photos. Most standard suburban gardens fall into a predictable range, and your rate is fixed for 12 months once agreed.

Do you bring your own equipment?

Always. Mowers, edge trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, trailers and protective gear travel with our teams, along with water and fuel. You don't need to provide anything except access and (if you're kind) somewhere to refill the kettle.

What happens to all the green waste?

We bag it and take it with us as part of every visit. Where possible it goes to a Cape Town green waste drop-off facility for composting rather than landfill.

Can you work within the current water restrictions?

Yes — we plan every maintenance schedule and irrigation install around the City of Cape Town's current water by-laws, including approved watering days and times, drip irrigation, mulching and drought-tolerant planting.

Do I need to be home during the visit?

No. Most of our regular clients are at work when we come. We only need agreed access arrangements, and we lock up behind ourselves. You'll get a short note after each visit if anything unusual came up.

Are you insured?

We carry public liability insurance for all work performed on your property, and our teams are permanent, uniformed employees. Certificates can be supplied to estate managers and body corporates on request.
